Audit Tick Mark Toolbar

This toolbar add-in for Microsoft Excel gives you a toolbar that inserts various auditing tick marks.  The default tick marks included are all red and include the following:

  • Circled numbers 1 through 9
  • Sigma (for sum of…)
  • The letter B (to agree to bank statement)
  • Check mark (agrees)
  • GL (agrees to the general ledger)
  • PBC (prepared by client)
  • PY (agrees to prior year)
  • TB (agrees to trial balance)

This toolbar will automatically put one of the above mentioned tick marks into the active cell in your worksheet.  Once there, the tick mark is like using any other image in Excel (i.e. can be moved, made larger/smaller, edited, etc.).  The audit tick mark toolbar works with Excel 97-2003 and Excel 2007.

This is a useful tool for auditing firms looking to standardize work papers and improve their audit efficiency.

    @hogan allen
    Most of the symbols are undefined. For example a circled number isn’t pre-defined as anything, nor is the letter “B”, however certain symbols are typically understood to mean something (i.e. B = reconciles to bank statement, PY = Prior Year, PBC = Prepared by Client, etc). The toolbar simply puts an image into your worksheet, so it wouldn’t be “wrong” to use one tick mark over another if you wish (see the example file above).
    Since this toolbar is an Excel add-in, there is no need to import it into your engagement management software. It should, however be compatible with any Excel files that are used/stored in ProFx Engagement.
