Four Excel Tips to Increase Productivity

Excel Tip #2: Use Watch Window

When cells are not visible on your worksheet but are important to monitor, you can watch the cells and formulas by using the Watch Window.

In Excel, click the Formulas tab, then Watch Window from the Formula Auditing group. The Watch Window screen will pop up. Click the “Add Watch” button, then select the cell(s) that you would like to watch the value of.

If you want to watch several consecutive cells, you can select multiple cells by highlighting each cell in the range you want to watch. If there are non-consecutive cells (A5 and E7, for example) you would click the first cell, then hold down CTRL on your keyboard while clicking the next cell.

Click the Add button once you have selected all the cells you want to watch.

You can remove some or all of these cells from the Watch Window later by selecting the cells you are no longer interested in watching (in the Watch Window list) and clicking the “Delete Watch” button.

Bonus tip: The Watch Window can be “docked to the top, bottom, left, or right side of your spreadsheet by simply clicking and dragging it towards the side of the spreadsheet where you want to dock it.
